My name is David Harsh, and I help beginning and intermediate Christian guitarists discover their potential.
Fun facts about me: my wife and I have two daughters, and I love to be creative - whether building structures out of papier-mâché, or playing music.
Here in this blog/podcast, I’m offering encouragement, stories, and tips on how to grow in your musicianship. I’ve been blessed to play and record guitar music for about three decades in a variety of settings from stage to studio.
I’ve also had the privilege of teaching guitarists all over North America through one-on-one lessons, workshops, conferences, and residential guitar seminars.
This is my blog. There are blogs out there about guitar gear, recording, shredding, luthiery, and maintenance. Those are all fantastic topics, but this is a different kind of blog.
Instead of trying to cover topics in each of these arenas, I’ve chosen to write about the journey we all take as musicians who want to play well, for the glory of God. I believe music is a gift to be developed and shared. Many of my posts are meant to simply encourage or challenge you. Some may offer some practical tips for enhancing your musicianship and your guitar playing.
But most are just intended to equip you as you serve the Lord with your musical gifts as a guitarist. I believe that we can worship the Lord with our guitar playing, on and off the platform.
I also believe that although some guitar concepts are easy to learn, sometimes we need to roll our sleeves up and take some consistent time to go a bit deeper. The results I’ve achieved as a guitarist have come with good, hard work.
I believe that some of the best musical experiences can happen on the other side of hard work…and if we’re working in the right way, fun can be had during the entire process.
If we believe that music should always be fun, what happens when it isn’t fun? Do we stop playing?
I would submit to you that guitar can be fun some of the time. But with the right mindset, most of the time, guitar can be serious fun, even when it’s challenging.
That’s why I call this blog Guitar Serious Fun.
Blessings in Christ,
David Harsh.
